"I have euthanized a fair number of horses.
I have also had clients who, before it closed, took horses to the
slaughterhouse in CT. I don't consider the slaughtered horses
to have ended their lives less humanely than falling off my needle.
(A procedure, which, by the way, does *not* always go smoothly.)

The folks in CT would take horses by appointment, handled them
with respect, and did a reasonable job.

Dead is dead. If done humanely, is it better to end up with a pile of
toxic waste, or something that can be eaten by who/whatever?

If someone does not wish to eat horsemeat, or send their horse
to a slaughterhouse, that is their decision.

They should not, however, be making that decision for everyone else."
