Enjoying an Idaho Sunset

Enjoying an Idaho Sunset out my front door!

THIS SPACE RESERVED FOR GOOD NEWS ONLY!!

On December 9th an early Christmas present arrived at my house. His name is Serr Serabaar. He is a half brother to Rabdan Al Bahr who we lost a year ago. A leggy, stretchy long yearling, he can really move. He arrived here from Arizona and stepped off the trailer declaring it time to grow more hair! Look for more photos in the spring, meanwhile, enjoy the shot the Johnson's sent to me. Merry Christmas!

Just for fun - here is my friend Karen Goodenough on her DB Destiny Moniet son DA Desert Moon competing in Ladies Side Saddle at the Idaho Arabian Breeders All Arabian Country Classic Horse Show.

On November 5 we lost another battle to strangles when we released the mare Alnor Tiffany LHF from her suffering. Tiffany was one of the last horses from the Vincent Melzac breeding program. She was a lovely mare of pure Pritzlaff descent and very "Moniet" in looks. We  started her under saddle this year and had hoped to include this beautiful lady in our breeding program. Sadly, it was not to be. She was a sweet and kind mare who will be missed. Another friend waiting at the Rainbow Bridge!

On November 4,  I rode with my father driving cattle from the mountains to their winter range. It had been 20 years since I had ridden anything other than an Arabian for any distance. Since my horses have been exposed to strangles I could not use any of them and rode my dad's quarter horse. YES - there is a difference. Hopefully it will be another 20 years before I am forced to do that again. He was a good honest horse,  just not Arabian...sigh!

DA Mustakbil Amal has acquired a new human in the person of Ray Hammar. Ray stepped in and bonded with this classy young man when he lost his mother to strangles. One thing led to another and Ray is now "owned" by "Sparky". :-)

On October 9 we grieved when Chevence RSI lost her battle with a strangles outbreak. She left behind the 3 month colt DA Mustakbil Amal, and took with her a full sibling due in 2001. Crippled from birth, her foals were her gift to us, and she leaves behind two healthy daughters, DA Moniets Crystl and DA Lady Ladera to carry on her line. I hope she is enjoying finally being able to run at the Rainbow Bridge!

Jan Sorrell of Silver Moments Arabians recently sent 2 mares South to visit with Sonyet. They are SW Sabiah and Ravenwood Kismat. We should have beautiful babies!

On July 25, 2000 my son Sean and DA Ginger Moon met on the road in the middle of the night. He was on his motorcycle when she jumped out into the middle of the road. No one was killed, but no one emerged unscathed either. Ginger is undergoing treatment for a cut to her fetlock, Sean is recovering from a broken nose, torn rotator cuff & bruised chest wall. The motorcycle is up for sale!  (His idea, but I concur!)

("SOLD!" - said Sheila, dancing a jig!!)

I recently received a terrific article on The Stresses of "Easy" Living for horses over the Internet. I liked it so well that you will find it posted here for your continuing education. It is somewhat long, but dispels a number of myths relating to horse management and supports the type of management we enjoy here at Destiny Arabians.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems...
but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort!
